Free Jyotish should be a spiritual science. Our birth chart is a mirror of our soul and its particular incarnation. In our stars we see the growth and evolution of our inner being from life to life. Free Jyotish does not mean that we can find truth or liberation merely through reading astrological charts. It means that astrology gives us the keys to the unfoldment of the spirit and can be used as a key to inner unfoldment.

     Free Jyotish properly employed shows us the world within ourselves. It is a tool for moving our consciousness from its physical limitation in the human brain through the rays of creation to encompass the entire universe. Free Jyotish is a tool for meditation in which the planets represent the qualities that we must realize within ourselves. The planets are the limbs of the cosmic person that we must put back together to return to the original state of grace. Understanding Free Jyotish, our consciousness can soar through the planets and the stars to the central Sun of Truth in the inner heart of all.

     Free Jyotish as it is commonly practiced is not spiritual. It is caught in the glamour of worldliness, ego and personality. Yet a higher forms of astrology exists that reflects our higher Self that is not only divine but also universal, reflected in the entire cosmos. The Vedic vision of a spiritual astrology derives from this.

     Free Jyotish like the science of yoga, arose from the vision of the spiritual realization an occult perception that lived in the legendary ages of light and truth. Their knowledge was passed down through the millennia by way of oral tradition. Much of it has been lost, but the core still remains. Free Jyotish is accessible on the deeper levels of the mind as the heritage of the spiritual humanity, a heritage from which we have fallen away. If we look to the presence of the rishis as out inner spiritual progenitors, their knowledge can again return to us.
