| INDIA: BIRTH PLACE OF VEDIC PALMISTRY |
The art and Science of hand reading originated
in India. The ancient movements of India take us back to
the prehistoric period of the Aryan civilization. Among
the Hindu sages who propagated this art include Garga, Gautma,
Bhrigu, Atri and Kashyapa. It is mentioned in the Puranas
that the divine sage, Nalada, practiced this art. Maharishi
Valmiki is reported to have written a book entitled. The
teaching of Valmiki Maharishi on male palmistry, comprising
567 stanzas, about 4000 to 5000 year ago. In North India,
this art was practiced by Joshi Brahmins for Ancient times.
Varahamihira, the great astronomer, mentioned this subject
in his celebrated book. These are preserved by their owners
as prized processions. Some are on palm leaves and some
on copper plates. 'Samudrik Shastra', 'Ravana Samhita' and
'Hasth Sanjeevani" are some of the famous ancient books
on palmistry, which are available even today. From India,
the art of hand reading spread to China, Tibet, Egypt, and
Persia and to other countries in Europe. Palmistry came
to China about 3000 years before the birth of Christ. Western
Scholars today accept with out question that India is indeed
the home and birthplace of scientific palmistry or hand
reading. With the spread of the Hindu teachings into other
lands do we trace the spread of the knowledge of palmistry?
The Hindu Vedas are the oldest scriptures that have been
found and according to some authorities, they have been
the foundation of even the Greek School of learning. Many
treasures in Sanskrit at the present day, lie buried and
hidden thanks to the to the selfish tradition of the Brahmins.
These Brahmin Guru does not impart instruction to any body
except to carefully chosen disciples. Neglected by the people
who gave it birth, European people took it seriously and
proved that it was a genuine science worthy of the attention
of seekers of the highest kind of knowledge. It is surprising
that palmistry, as an exact Science has not developed in
India to the extent it has in Europe and America.

| Astrology And Palmistry |
| The relation between astrology and Palmistry
has been the subject of controversy. There is, however, strong
evidence in favour of the school of thought, which holds that
astrology and palmistry were practiced conjointly, to say the
least. The naming of the mounts on the hand after the planets
is not as arbitrary as the opinion to the contrary. If we remember
the fact that horoscope could be cast from the examination of
the palm, and other astrological uses are actually being made
of it, there is a strong suggestion of a greater affinity between
the two Sciences |
