According to Bhagwad Geeta
:
When one is depending
on luck, he is still not detached. A fatalistic man is only
trying to depend on luck to achieve the results he desires,
to which he is attached. Only, he is not depending on his
own actions. Thus, he is not performing his duties, and such
an attitude dose not lead to liberation. We often fail to
distinguish between detachment and inaction, and tend to look
towards luck to bring us favourable results. |

When
we fail, we have a tendency to blame our luck for our misfortunes
and our state of unhappiness. This is especially so when we
are in a state of stress. Such negative thinking weakens us
emotionally by lowering our self-esteem. As mentioned earlier,
while we must take steps to keep our morale high, it is also
necessary to examine what is meant by fate.
In the Bhagavad Geeta, Krishna says that he does not pass
judgments upon the acts of human beings.
Understanding how this world works is one of the biggest mysteries
for all of us. Despite scientists working hard to understand
various aspects about the working of this universe, even today
we can hardly explain anything in complete perspective.
The knowledge that we have today is in bits and pieces. Even
this knowledge is also about how things work. There is no
understanding about why things work the way they do. Despite
such ignorance about the workings of the system of Maya, we
like to think that everything work according to a understand
it. However, as Sri Krishna says in the Geeta, the system
of His Maya is mysterious and it is not possible for man to
understand it.
In fact, there is no point evaluating the occurrence of events
according to our parameters of justice and injustice. The
laws, and the Constitution that we follow, are made by human
beings and are meant for human beings. The law of Nature,
or the law of Maya, has nothing to do with the laws made by
men. Maya has its own system of operation, which we can neither
comprehend nor control. We should take it in due stride, as
it comes, without pronouncing judgment upon it from human
point of view.
Can we change our Destiny?
In the Ashtavakra Geeta, it is truly said: “As you think, so is your fate.” Our destiny is often decided by the way we think and act. It is mostly in our mind, not anywhere outside. If we take such conscious decisions that would bring us health and happiness, our fate would be good. On the other hand, if we involve ourselves in petty things, if we do not care for the health of our body and mind, we would only be unhappy. But if we retain a positive attitude, carry on with our wo5rk in life, taking adversity in due stride and taking good care of our health, we would be comparatively happy.
Unforeseen accidents can happen to anyone. You cannot always avoid or control them. But you can react towards them differently. That is in your hands. It depends on your outlook, on your attitude towards what is happening to you, on your philosophy of life. That is your fate.
It is necessary to review our through system periodically about how we think, what we think and whether the way we are looking at things is going to lead us to happiness or unhappiness.
